“My grandchildren and I had packed up the car, but we had no idea where we were headed. Hurricane Rita was on her way and I knew I needed to go. I went back inside to take one final look around and the Lord impressed upon my heart that I needed to go to Lufkin.”
“We had a service for the evacuees on the Sunday after Hurricane Rita hit our area. During that service one of the bus drivers who had brought the evacuees accepted Jesus as his Savior.”
How many people are like these who testified of God’s leading and grace during the devastation of hurricanes and floods? How many times do we see tragedy and think God is not working? Habakkuk asked the same question in his day and God answered, “… I am doing something in your days—you would not believe if you were told”* (Habakkuk 1:5 italics mine).
We only see a fifth of an iceberg above the surface. The rest is out of our vision. What if we saw only a fifth of what God is doing? We can be confident that even though we may not see God working, He is working behind the scenes. We only see the tip of what He does. He has a totally different perspective, however. He sees the whole, the big picture. Nothing takes Him by surprise!
When we realize and embrace these truths, our faith will rise above the mundane and our hearts will echo Habakkuk 3:17-19*, “Though the fig tree should not blossom, and there be no fruit on the vines, though the yield of the olive should fail, and the fields produce no food, though the flock should be cut off from the fold, and there be no cattle in the stalls, yet I will exalt in the Lord, I will rejoice in the God of my salvation. The Lord is my strength, and He has made my feet like hinds’ feet, and makes me to walk on my high places.”
